Apparel procurement

The cloth does not move until the numbers agree.

Bomauto is the system Mind Boot Studios built for apparel houses. A buyer workbook comes in. The purchase order is raised from it. The vendor’s proforma is held to that order. The store issues only what was cleared. The cheque leaves with a trail.

The real day

Buying breaks in the gap between desks.

An apparel house already has the people. The trouble is the paper that travels between them, and the quiet places where a number changes without anyone signing for it.

01

The workbook is not a record.

A buyer BOM arrives as a sheet. Columns drift. A style is revised. By the time the mill asks which file was ordered, three versions are open on three screens.

02

The PI does not match the PO.

Rate, quantity, and tax disagree. The argument usually starts after the fabric has already left the vendor, when reversing it costs more than reading it would have.

03

The store issues what was never cleared.

Cloth moves because someone at the gate is trying to help production. Without the cleared PI beside the challan, the floor gets metres the merchandiser never bought.

04

The cheque disappears into a bag.

A post-dated cheque goes out by courier. Days later, accounts can tell you it was sent. They cannot tell you where it is.

The floor

Four desks. One house.

Each person opens the work that belongs to them. The company name appears after sign-in. Another company’s books stay in another workspace, and that address is given to the company. It is not listed here.

M

Merchandiser

From the BOM to the order.

Read the buyer workbook, raise the purchase order, and hold the vendor proforma against it before anyone cuts cloth.

  • BOM review and line mapping
  • Purchase orders and suppliers
  • Vendor PI and PI comparison
  • Inventory, fabric, and the outbox
S

Store

Only what was cleared.

Goods come in against the PI the merchandiser has already accepted, and go out to manufacturing on a delivery challan.

  • Today’s inward and outward
  • Receipts tied to cleared material
  • Issues with a challan
A

Accounts

The cheque has a journey.

Post-dated cheques and the courier that carries them stay visible after they leave the office.

  • Cheque dispatch
  • Courier tracking
  • A record accounts can open later
H

Management

The house, from above.

A view across the orders in motion, for the people who need the picture and not the keystrokes.

  • One executive desk
  • The same books the floor is using
  • No second spreadsheet to reconcile

How a style moves

Five steps, and none of them are a forwarded mail.

  1. 1

    The BOM is read.

The buyer workbook is taken in as the source. The lines are mapped, and the file that was used is the file that stays.

  2. 2

    The order is raised.

A purchase order is built from those lines, with the supplier, the quantity, and the terms in the same place.

  3. 3

The PI is held to the PO.

The vendor’s proforma is compared before the store is allowed to treat the goods as received.

  4. 4

    The store moves cloth.

Inward against the cleared PI. Outward to manufacturing with a challan. Metres that were never bought do not get a gate pass.

  5. 5

    The cheque is followed.

Accounts can see the instrument and the courier, after the bag has left the building.

Mind Boot Studios

Designed by engineers who know the desk.

Bomauto was made at Mind Boot Studios for the problems an apparel house actually has: a shifting workbook, a PI that does not match, a store that wants to help, and a cheque that vanishes into transit. It is software with a job, built by people who stayed with that job.
